Back-to-School Kid Space with Josephine Desk

With school starting next week, I wanted to set up a place for my son to draw, color, practice writing, or do art.  Sure, we can use the kitchen table or counter (and often do), but it would also be nice for him to have an area that doesn't have to be "picked up" come dinner time.  Decor speaking, I wanted to add a pop of RED to his navy, light blue, and white room, and I found the perfect desk for the job.  Have y'all seen this World Market Red Josephine Desk before?  It's white version is popular in many home offices I've seen online, but I dig the bright, shiny red color for this space.  Here's how I incorporated it into the corner of my son's room.

I considered adding campaign hardware to the corners of the desk, but decided against it because I like how it looked originally.  Instead, I just "dipped" the legs in gold spray paint and added a decorative washi tape trim for fun.

On the desktop, I put some of my son's flashcards, markers, crayons, and pencils, along with this cute red service bell.  Inside the drawers are paper, coloring books and craft supplies.

I made the "IDEAS" sign with wooden blocks, skewers, and chipboard letters.  It's an easy DIY that you can use for any word or perhaps your child's name.  The red sculpture is the Soapstone Love Knot Figure

James has already grown accustomed to his desk, and drew us a family picture.  "You're the one in the pink with the high heels Mom."  Ha!

This desk should last him a long time since it's stylish enough to grow through later years. Right now, he's sitting on the multicolor striped frayed throw pillow and the Celia Metal Swivel Chair

And since I had to move his bookcase to the playroom to make room for the desk, I used the Zinc Oliver Rolling Cart as a three-tiered bookshelf that fit this small wall perfectly!  Just his size!

I feel like, "Where did our summer go?" but the structure and routine of the school year will probably be a welcome addition to our days.  We are getting pretty L A Z Y around here!

The Josephine Desk ($169.99, $199.99), Celia Swivel Chair ($109.99, $129.99) and Zinc Oliver Rolling Cart ($79.99, $99.99) are all currently on SALE at World Market during their Home Office Event that runs through August 25, 2014.  In addition to the sale,
