Wardrobe Wednesday | Chambray & Lace Shorts

Hump day already! Feels good to be so close to the weekend again! I've been trying to wear more of my clothes in different ways to make the most of items already in my closet. My friend Trisa is great at this- she'll have one thing she wears a hundred different ways and I admire how many outfits she can create.  I always wear this chambray shirt with white skinny jeans, so I tried pairing it with shorts to give me another look.  I'm liking this chambray + lace shorts combo.  It's great here right now on days it's not too hot.

Weekend Recap

If last weekend is an indicator of how the summer's gonna go, I think it's gonna be a good one!  We got to hang out at the pool and water park, did some chores around the house and yard, and had our ice cream party.  The party was supposed to be outside, but it rained, so we set up inside instead.  It was a fun time and just the perfect ending to a long weekend. We did end up with way too much ice cream left over though!

This is our last week of school and we're ready for SUMMER!

I've been adding things to my shopping cart as I put this post together- time to go back in and edit since I may have went a little overboard! :) I often order 2 of one thing if I'm not sure of my size (especially in jeans) because its so easy to return. Nordstrom includes a return shipping label right in in the box- you don't even have to go to your computer to process a return, just put back the size that doesn't fit and affix the label.

Our Breakfast Room Rug at Joss & Main (Bellevue Rug)

I've gotten some inquiries about the medallion rug in our breakfast room and I just saw that it's back on sale at Joss & Main (the Bellevue Rug).  These items go in and out of stock, but looks like this one is available until May 21 or 22, 2014. 

We have the 6'7 x 9'6 rug under our table, and it's on sale for $227.95, a great price for such a large rug. It comes in other sizes too though.  The color is more blue like the photo of our room, as opposed to the teal you see in the Joss & Main photo below.  I actually like it better in person.  It's held up really well so far, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Memorial Day Ice Cream Social

Have y'all made plans for Memorial weekend?  We are staying in town and didn't have any special plans, so after ruling out an overnight road trip, we thought it would be fun to host a neighborhood ice cream social on Monday afternoon for those who are staying in town too.  We've got great families with lots of kids in our neighborhood, but we don't all get together too often unless we run into each other on an evening walk or at the local park.  On the couple occasions we have gotten together, it's been a great time.  We're also inviting some friends from school since we've gotten so close throughout the school year.   Thankfully, we're supposed to have perfect weather this weekend.

I sent out a text and Evite to our school friends, but wanted to give a paper invite to our neighborhood friends that my son and I could hand-deliver.  I printed out the Evite and put it with a patriotic pinwheel for a fun invitation.  If our neighbors weren't home, we left the invite on the mailbox.  

Our street is very quiet, so we plan to set up some folding tables and chairs in the front yard and just hang out while the kids play.  (Our friends who are driving will bring a chair if convenient).  It being an ice cream social, we'll get a few flavors of ice cream with lots of fixins so everyone can customize their treat how they like it.

I'm thinking we might make a few other goodies too, like these dipped Oreos displayed in the shape of the American flag.  So cute, and my son is a big Oreo fan.

It's easy to talk ourselves out of having these types of get togethers because they can easily spiral into, "Well, maybe we should make it a BBQ too, and have drinks, and we need lots of American-themed decor and a bounce house, and  . . . "  Before you know it, the party is so expensive and can feel more like a burden than a celebration.

Keeping it, "it's just ice-cream" lessons the stress of it all.  People can eat lunch at home, then come and go and they please.  A great way to celebrate Memorial day and the freedom we all have due to those who give so much.
