Wardrobe Wednesday // What I Wore to Dallas

Packing for a two-day trip feels like it takes forever, especially when you are going to a fashion blogger conference.  At these kinds of events, it's easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself to dress to impress, but I tried to just pull out what I felt good in and kept in mind that my main goal was to enjoy myself and visit with my friends.  But, that didn't stop me from running to Marshalls and TJ Maxx at the last minute to see if I could find something new!  I shop everywhere and love the steals at those stores, which are pretty convenient to my house.

For the travel day I wanted to be comfortable, so I wore ankle jeans and a trendy, silky tank with gold accessories.  I snapped this pic just before heading out the door.  Hair's lookin' good thanks to my Remington Wide Styling Wand.  I've gotten so much better at using it- barely takes any time now. (But I still wear the glove!)

My most favorite jeans right now -AG Stevie Ankle Jean (I'm 5'1 and have the 26R.  I can wear them unrolled, but they bunch a tad) |  ASTR drape back chiffon tank  |  DV Disco sandal for the airport  |  Kate Spade Leopard Ikat iPhone 5 & 5s case

The outfit I originally planned for Day 2 (black Express shorts and a black and white striped blouse- similar) was ruined when I went to iron the blouse and burned a giant hole into it.  I was rushing and not paying attention to the heat setting. :( Luckily, I had a backup outfit that was more colorful anyway and worked out fine.   The skirt is one of the things I found at TJ Maxx at my last minute shopping trip.  I love that it fit perfectly off the rack.

Gap tank (similar)  |  or you could wear it with a t-shirt  |  Milly skirt (similar) here here   |  Michael Kors heels similar here  here  here   |  Kate Spade Gramercy Grand watch  (love the Kate Spade Metro watch too)  |  Stella & Dot Kimberly necklace

We went to an outdoor cocktail party and I wore a Slate and Willow Derek dress that I ordered from Rent The Runway.  I paired them with blue suede Jessica Simpson Cayna Ankle Strap Pumps and Stella & Dot Aqua Serenity Stone Drop earrings.

The romper was also a fun last minute find for only $16.99!  Reminds me of disco fever with the wide leg. ;) And with wedges, I didn't have to hem it!  I wore this on the last day and also to the airport back home with a scarf- it was really comfy to travel in.

I couldn't find the exact jumpsuit one online, but this Lavish Alice Cami jumpsuit by ASOS is similar  and this coral/red Bebe wide leg jumpsuit is so cute! |  Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant necklace  |  Michael Kors wedges (similar here  here  here |  Henri Bendel Metropolitan Bolt Cuff Bracelet (in black) - it was a Christmas gift from my hubby |  Stella & Dot Union Square Frida Scarf

Although my blog will remain mainly home decor / organization / family, I plan to incorporate fashion posts on Wednesdays and Weekend Sale posts on Fridays.  Except for last weekend, I really haven't shopped for clothes this year.  I'm keeping my eye out for good deals and want to find some fun Spring/Summer looks soon!  I hope you enjoy- let me know! :)

Springy Dining Room // World Market Foyer Table

Well, it was time to take down the Easter bunny and eggs in exchange for some Spring-into-Summer dining room decor.  This World Market Everett Foyer Table has been a good buy and I enjoy changing out the decor with the seasons.  I'm still loving the HomeGoods lamps, so I kept them, but brought in some books for color in pink, blue, aqua and green and then shopped my house for added accessories.

The 'Hello Sunshine' framed print is actually a greeting card- lots of things can be art and frame worthy.

I bought some faux boxwood plants at Steinmart years ago and spray painted the pots from brown to white.  My owl is my good luck charm since it reminds me of my Grandma (she collects owls).

Porcelain ginger jars make great bookshelf and decor accessories.  I found these at HomeGoods.  I'm pretty sure the tea light bird is from Target.

The West Elm Rocking Bird is a sentimental gift because I received it from Cassie

In just a couple months, it will be time to turn this table into Summer mode!  I'm getting excited! My son is in swimming lessons now and I see lots of pool days in our future. :)

To see other ways I've styled the World Market Everett Foyer table, check out my Home  Tour.

Getting Back to Blogging

The last few weeks have been super busy around here- not so much on the blog, but behind the scenes.  I was so happy to have my Grandma in town for a week at Easter, so in preparation for her visit and while she was here, I wasn't working on any home projects besides cleaning and organizing.

Last weekend, I went to Dallas for a blog conference and got to visit with my friends Cassie, Carlee, NatalieCaycee, Desiree, and Chassity and meet new friends too; Erika, Shanna, Ashley, Desiree, Hallie, Jennifer, Jocelyn & Martha, and Shannon to name a few.  You can check out my Instagram for some photos of the weekend.

It was really a great time and I'll be doing a fashion recap soon with plans to integrate more fashion posts now that Spring has my attention on style and wardrobe changes.

Saturday night we had my son's school Gala fundraiser with a 1920's theme.  It was our first one and reminded me so much of prom for grown-ups.  ;)

I thought our Gala class art project came out super cute.  My girlfriend and I (the one in the silver dress) are room moms, so we were in charge of creating an auction item for people to bid on at the fundraiser.  We created a collage of the kids' hands in a heart shape using a poster board and construction paper as the backdrop (letting the kids choose their color) and PicMonkey to create the collage. The photo was printed at Costco in 11x14 (for about $2) and framed with a small plaque that read "The Heart of (Our School) 2014".  Last time I checked, the high bid was $165!  (My son's hands are bottom right).

Back at home, I have so many post ideas I'm ready to create and publish, I just need to make time to do it.  Working out so much in preparation for my bikini contest has kind of been kicking my @ss.    But, I feel like I'm in a rhythm now, so I'm ready to get back to my home blog!

Our Easter Table

We're ready for Easter over here!  I've got the table all set for Sunday dinner and the Easter baskets filled.  We'll be having ham, mac and cheese, corn on the cob, cranberry dressing and dinner rolls.  The table is dressed with our wedding china plates that I need to use more often, green mason jars for water cups, and hydrangeas in two shades of purple.

This table was inspired by this floral table runner with a combination of calming green, blue and green that I paired with blue cloth placemats that I've had for ages.

My favorite part of this table is the green mason jars with yellow and white paper straws and adorable Easter tags.

I printed the tags from Lia Griffith, made a hole with a punch, and tied the tags around the jars with pale pink ribbon.

I think they came out so cute!

As for the kids, I filled their easter baskets with goodies and sweet treats.

And the big kid won't be forgotten; he'll get a special treat of his own- his favorite Easter candy.

Hope you have a wonder Easter celebration with your loved ones!

P.S. This post is my 1,000th post!  What a great holiday to celebrate that milestone with!

Happy Good Friday!

Happy Good Friday friends!  I'm so happy to have my Grandma in town from California.  We haven't seen her since my son was 1, so it's great having her here.  I added some touches of pink to her room since it's her favorite color.  :) The pillows and lamp are from Homegoods.

We'll be  hosting Easter dinner with my family at our house and having an egg hunt with the kids on Sunday.  This is the first year my son is starting to understand why we celebrate Easter, which makes the holiday extra special.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Organizing the Kid Clothes

I've been trying to tackle a few organizing projects on my Master List and have happily completed two:  our mudroom, and, over the weekend, my son's clothes.  As our weather is getting warmer and warmer, I needed to take stock of what shorts and t-shirts still fit, what needed to be pulled out as too small or too hot to wear.

We don't keep his clothes in a dresser in his room; they are stored in the drawers in the bathroom.  Two of the cabinet drawers are large and deep, which contain shirts, pants, and shorts.  The two smaller adjacent drawers are for his school uniforms and socks/underwear.

I actually still like doing my son's laundry because I think the small clothes are the cutest thing ever.  I always fold everything and put it away neatly, but when people start rummaging around in the drawers, they get pretty messy.

I pulled everything out, examined the sizes, and put aside everything he had outgrown.  I made a second small pile of a few things I wasn't sure fit and needed him to try on.  Sweatshirts were going to be put in the overhead cabinet, but since he only has a few, I moved them back to the drawer since we had enough room.

The clothes that still fit were folded and put back inside the drawers.  Now I can clearly see that he's still got enough shirts that fit to last through the summer.  The top row is long sleeve shirts (sweatshirts on the top right), the bottom row is short sleeve shirts (first two are collared and the last one is regular tee-shirts).

As far as jeans, pants, and shorts go, looks like he has enough of those in his size too.

I separated out his uniform clothes to make weekday mornings easier.  (You can read about our morning routine HERE).

And socks and undies go in green bins in the bottom drawer.

We keep his pajamas in his old changing table, but that needed a good cleaning out too.

Now, we have pj's in the top two drawers, and swimsuits in the bottom drawer.

Cleaning out those drawers left us with a giant bag of clothes to donate to a cutie pie who is just the right size for them now- and a bag of pull-ups/swim diapers.  :)  But, I had to hold onto James' jean jacket and cut-off shorts.  He wore those shorts for so long, I just couldn't let them go.

My makeup and my son's art supplies are next on the organizing list!

Organized Mudroom

Okay folks, only took me 4 days to finally have some time to clean out and organize our mudroom, but now that it's done, I'm loving it!  Hopefully, it can function smoothly and stay this way throughout the summer.

My son was at school when I snapped these photos, but his backpack goes on the empty hook.

You may remember the before:

A few simple changes made all the difference.

First, I removed the pillows (even though I sewed all of them myself) because I figured they were contributing to the cluttered look.  Then, I decided what really needed to be kept in this room, removed the rest, and bought two more hooks. Since we got our original hooks via our builder, I couldn't find the exact match at our local hardware store, so I went with a different style in the same finish (brushed silver).

To make sure everything stays in its place, I made labels with my label maker and put them in bookplates from the Martha Stewart collection (had to run to the store to get more).  The categories in our mudroom are: Sports (I consolidated my son's swim lesson and T-ball stuff into one bag), School (his backpack), James' Jackets, Hats (my son's), Mom (my scarves/jackets), Hats (mine), Gym (workout bag), Swim (pool bag), and my favorite- Car/Returns (all the things I need to put in my car to either return or give to someone- that miscellaneous errand stuff).

My son and I wear hats a lot in the summer, and keeping them on a hook ensures they don't get all squished.  When the weather is nice, I like to drive with the sunroof open, but don't want sun on my face, so a hat is a must (along with sunscreen)!

This colorblock fedora fits really well and comes in other colors too.

Part of keeping this space organized includes keeping the contents of the bags organized.  These blue and white stripe and Ikat Stella & Dot bags are perfect for my gym bag and pool bag.  I've used them for about a year and a half and they've held up great.

The gym bag contains: gym fob, iPod, sports towel, water bottle, small bag with mascara, hair bands/clips/bobby pins, bag of glutamine powder (for drinking immediately after I workout).

The pool bag has sunscreen, a visor, swimsuit, cover-up, flip-flops (in case I go after the gym), and magazines.

I wish I could remember the vendor who sold this orange and white vinyl bag.  I got it at our annual holiday market and you get to choose your bag/monogram style and color.  Since this one is so heavy duty, I use it to transport things to and from the car, like returns, etc.

Putting my son's T-ball and swim stuff into one bag helped a lot.  I keep in his bag: (swim) towel, change of clothes, goggles, crocks and for (T-ball): baseballs, sports towel, hat, sunscreen (adult and kids), granola bar, water bottle, chapstick, gum, marker/pens/paper.

I keep my son's shoes and my tennis shoes in the woven baskets (from Target).  I've got two pair for running the park, two pair for the gym, and two Skechers Go Walk (so lightweight and comfy) for everyday.  Flip flops are also kept here- just bought this pair.

I have kept my keys on this simple hook strip since we moved in and recently switched out my purse for a cross body bag (thanks Sista!) It opens in the center with a place to put money, credit cards, etc.  Makes it super easy to grab and go.

I love a good AFTER! :)

Have a great weekend!

On Honey We're Healthy:  I'm hoping this cream can help tighten my tummy skin- it feels like it's working, but we'll see . . .
